I am often asked what the word Handsome actually means in German and what the name MR HANDSOME (short for: Mister Handsome) stands for.

The word Handsome is an English adjective and means something like "good-looking", "attractive" or "stately". The special thing about this word is that it is (almost) exclusively used for men.

If you want to compliment a woman in English on her good looks and wonderful character, you usually describe her as beautiful, gorgeous or pretty (there are other words that could be used, but the three mentioned are the most common). Nobody would think of describing a woman as handsome. This term is reserved for men and is invariably used as a compliment.

For me, Handsome refers not only to good looks, but also to a sure sense of style, authenticity and aesthetics.
